Matchy Set

TOP: Forever 21 │SKIRT: Forever 21 SHOES: Schutz │ BAG: Modcloth │WATCH: Michele │BRACELETS: David Yurman

Happy Monday, y’all! I feel like I am still recovering from all the fun from St. Patrick’s Day weekend. We started off the holiday at the parade downtown. Raleigh graced us with a little bit of warmer weather and it was much appreciated. I really feel like the parade was actually a dog parade and not a St. Patrick’s day parade. Endless baby animals all dressed in green and top hats. If that’s not your jam, I’m not really sure what is.

I wore this set over the weekend to brunch. For under $40, it doesn’t get much cuter than this. I said it before, but I’ll say it again – matching sets are here to stay. And I’m all in. No more matching your top and bottom, it’s done for you. I also think this skirt would be super work appropriate with a button down. My bag ($49.00) is a dupe of the Cult Gaia bags that you’re seeing everywhere.  I think the wicker/ bamboo bag trend is going to be really hot this spring and summer so I would grab at least one. This option is affordable and super roomy for endless lip gloss and other unnecessary items ;).

Questions? Let’s hear them!

Preppy Plaid

SKIRT: Zara│SHIRT: J Crew│BLAZER: Forever 21│SHOES: Sam Edelman│BAG: Chanel│WATCH: Michele│ BRACELETS: David Yurman│SUNNIES: Asos (sold out) Similar Here

This skirt is just the cutest y’all. I love structure, plaid, and blazers..  You’d think after 10 years in a uniform in Catholic school, I’d be sick of plaid. Well, I’m not. You see lots of plaid around Christmas, but I think there’s room in your life for year round plaid. Gingham or Madras in the summer, Tartan for fall and Hounds tooth for winter. This skirt has a good mix of gingham, tartan and window pane. If you’re reading along and I just spoke a different language – yes, those are all different types of plaid. And yes, there are many, many, many more different types of plaid.

My button down is actually a body suit and I HIGHLY recommend it. Ever have a hard time with your button down staying tucked in? Well this baby literally never comes untucked. It’s fabulous. I wear it to work and on the weekend all the time. My blazer is forever 21 and it’s a super stylish piece for work and play at a cost conscious price point.

The Classic LBD

Dress: LuLu’s  │Shoes: Jessica Simpson similar Here and Here│ Watch: Michele │Bracelets: David Yurman

I love date night….. and rooftop bars….. and good wine….  BUT most of all, I love a good little black dress. A dress with the versatility to take you essentially anywhere. From date night to dinner parties, it’s a closet staple. I swear a good LBD has super powers. And for $36, it doesn’t get much better than this one. It also comes in several colors. Dress it up like I did with a neutral heel or dress it down with a denim jacket and some boots. I like having at least a few different long sleeve LBD’s to get me through the transition from winter to spring. My shoes are almost sold out so I’m linking a few similar pairs. I also rounded up some affordable LBDs below.

If you’re in Raleigh and you’re looking for a great date night spot, you have to check out Level 7. It’s in North Hills, on the 7th floor (get it?) of the Marriott AC Hotel. The view is great and the drinks are even better. On Thursday nights they have live music on the rooftop. We head over to have a drink before or after eating in North Hills..

Questions? Comments? I’d love to hear from you…

Flirty Co-Ord

SHORTS: The Fifth Label │TOP: The Fifth Label│SHOES: Stuart Weitzman (old) Similar Here│ CLUTCH: Chanel │WATCH: Michele │ SUNNIES: Karen Walker│ BRACELETS: David Yurman

I have such a love affair with co-ordinate sets. They are a lazy girls dream (hi, that’s me). They’re basically a two for one deal and who can really pass that up? Actually, they’re more like a three for one. Three different potential outfits in one set. You essentially get a pair of shorts and top that make a fabulous outfit. But, then you also get a pair of shorts and a top that can easily be styled independently. Do I sound like a walking advertisement for co-ords yet? 😉

I can’t wait to wear these shorts with a white button down or crop top and flip flops. The ruffle hem is just way too cute. You’ll be seeing tons of co-ords all spring and summer long. They’re really having a moment and I’m all in.

My wedges are so comfy. Stuart Weitzman comes out with a different neutral wedge every season and I always scoop them right up. I can wear them all day and they don’t rub or hurt my feet. Highly recommend. My workplace is open toe shoe friendly, so they also look great in the summer with a nice white pant.

Questions about Co-ords? I’m your girl 🙂

Cayman Review 2

DRESS: Nasty Gal │SHOES: Jessica Simpson │BRACELETS: David Yurman

For the last two days of our trip, we flew to one of the smaller islands – Cayman Brac. It’s a short and relatively inexpensive flight (about 30 minutes). Cayman Brac is a much smaller island inhabiting about 2500 people. It’s a much slower, relaxed pace than Grand Cayman. Head over to Cayman Brac for some serious R&R. The island is named after a large limestone bluff that runs the course of the island (Brac is gaelic for bluff).

For our one night on the island, we stayed at Le Soleil d’OrThe resort’s main house is actually on a 20 acre organic farm. Guests can take a tour of the farm and sample different fruits and vegetables right from the ground. Le Soleil d’Or makes the distance from farm to table super short. You can stay at any of the rooms at the main house or you can stay at one of the private houses on the ocean. We stayed at the two story beach house.

Things to Do :

The resort had scooters to rent, which helped us really explore the island. The entire island is about 12 miles long so we were able to go from one end to the other in about an hour. They do drive on the opposite side of the road, which made me a little anxious at first. However, there is virtually no traffic. I think the entire time we were riding around we saw one other car. We rode over to the old lighthouse which offers seemingly endless ocean views.

BATHING SUIT: Shein │SHORTS: Express│ SUNNIES: Quay │SHOES: Tory Burch

Where We Ate:

We had to take advantage of the resort’s farm, so we had a private chef from the resort come to our house to make dinner. So worth it. The food was amazing. It was also really cool to watch him make our dinner with food from right across the street. You can order from a large menu and the chef brings everything right to the house. They also have an extensive wine list and offer to help make pairings.

I loved our time at Grand Brac and could’ve easily stayed another night. I don’t know if I would plan a week long trip there. It’s great for some private relaxation, but if you are looking for night life or tons of restaurants to check out, head to the Grand Cayman. I can’t wait to plan our next trip. We’re thinking about Croatia or Spain. Has anyone ever been? If you have any questions about things to do in Cayman, I’d love to hear from you.

SwimWear Round Up

BATHING SUIT:  Aerie (old) Similar Here and Here │HAT: Asos│SUNNIES: Quay

Warmer days are happening more and more often, which has me itching for summer and everything that comes with it. Cute bikinis, longer nights, poolside drinks, no top on the jeep… (these are a few of my favorite things).

You might not know it, but I am originally from Florida where a bathing suit is necessary almost year round. Because of this, I have amassed quite the collection. You might even call me a bathing suit connoisseur.  I think the last time I counted I had over 100 bathing suits. I know, I know, too many. But I love to shop for new ones and I’m constantly on the hunt for bathing suits that are cute and flattering.

So here goes! Below is a collection of my favorites. They are grouped by style. I really think investing in a more expensive bathing suit that looks fantastic on you and gives you tons of confidence is really important. You could keep heading to target to buy a new cheap bathing suit every year (absolutely nothing wrong with is – I do it every year. That stuff is cute!) OR you could have that one bathing suit that you know is perfect.

Death and Taxes

JEANS: Seven For All Mankind │BODYSUIT: Zara

Welcome to my first Raleigh guide post! I’m a huge foodie and I love to be out and about, so I thought I’d do some reviews of my favorite local places. Raleigh is just overflowing with local restaurants making it hard to know where to go. So, let me be your guide! We recently had dinner at one of my favorite Raleigh restaurants, Death and Taxes. Located in downtown Raleigh, Death and Taxes is the newest addition to the Ashley Christensen restaurant group. The focus of this restaurant is wood fired entrees. Think perfectly grilled steak, pork and seafood. This is on the smaller side in terms of size, so plan on making a reservation. You can find their online reservation system here.

Drinks:

The drink selection at Death and Taxes is vast and you could just head there for drinks. The bar is inside the restaurant and faces the kitchen which features an open design. We always try to go a little before our reservation to have a drink and watch the chef do his thing. The wine list goes on and on and honestly, I haven’t had a bad glass there. This visit, I stuck with a trusty favorite, sparkling rose, which I highly recommend. For cocktails, my favorites are the The Stowaway and Les Sucettes.

First Course:

We started the party with the roasted oysters with chili butter and preserved lemon. YUM. Those suckers lasted approximately 2 minutes after this photo was snapped. Other favorites we’ve had are the charcuterie and the beef tartar. You also have to order the bread and butter starter. The bread is freshly baked every day and it’s worth every last calorie.

Entrees:

For our main course, we shared the grilled shrimp and steak. I really feel like if it’s your first time at Death and Taxes you have to try the steak. It’s what they are known for and it does not disappoint. It’s always perfectly cooked to your preference. The beef is NC grass fed angus, so it’s always super tender. The shrimp entree features NC shrimp in a butter garlic sauce that is light and flavorful. Both entrees were fantastic. We’ve also had the pork chop and the fish. I don’t think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. The sides we had this time were fried potato fonduta which resembles a fried mashed potato ball and the twice cooked mushrooms.

Dessert:

Did you really go try a new restaurant if you didn’t order dessert?  We ended the night with an Irish coffee and lemon ice cream sandwich. Pro tip: order your Irish coffee with double Jameson and Baileys. The ice cream sandwich is made with a ginger snap cookie and it’s the perfect sweet and citrus combination. If you’re more of a chocolate fan, the dark chocolate bread pudding is heaven on a plate.

I’m linking the full menu here. Keep in mind, the menu is seasonal and changes so things we had  might not always be on the menu. It is a higher end restaurant and entrees range from $24-35, but it is beyond worth it. I will also say the service at Death and Taxes is above and beyond. All of the wait staff was super accommodating while I traipsed around their restaurant taking 8 million pictures. Highly, highly recommend checking out Death and Taxes.

Questions about Death and Taxes or other Raleigh restaurants? Let me know!

Twirly Olive Dress

DRESS: BKNR  │ SHOES: Jessica Simpson │CLUTCH: Kate Spade (old) Similar Here and Here │ SUNNIES: Karen Walker

Happy Thursday, y’all! I am so, so, so ready for spring. I’m actually ready to throw away all of my coats and bulky sweaters. This dress is the perfect transition dress for spring. The weather here has been hopping back and forth from 70’s to 50’s which makes long sleeves necessary for just a few more weeks (hopefully). North Carolina likes to tease us with a few days of warmer temps and then back to the 50’s. I get so jealous looking at other bloggers who live south of me posting all these fun spring looks. C’mon North Carolina, gimme some spring.

I love flirty, feminine silhouettes and this dress is all of that and more. The material is a super slinky silk blend which gives it tons of personality.  The tie string belt really accentuates the waist giving you that sought after hourglass shape.

Ever since we got back from our Cayman trip, I’ve been dying to start planning our next trip. Where should we go? I have a travel bucket list that’s miles long, but I’d love to hear suggestions from y’all.

Lace Up Dress

DRESS: Revolve │SHOES: Jessica Simpson │CLUTCH: Chanel │SUNNIES: Karen Walker │BRACELETS: David Yurman

I love a little black dress as much as anybody, but y’all, this little white lace up dress might be replacing my LBD this summer. Did I mention it’s also on super sale?  $42 and available in all sizes. When I first saw this dress, I said nope, no way. Those laces are going to show everything and I am guaranteed a wardrobe malfunction. But, I am a firm believer in the try on factor. What’s the try on factor you ask? I try to never judge anything by the way it looks on a hanger or on my computer screen. There have been so many times where I’ve been so unsure about something on the hanger and then I try it on and BAM, its perfect. Bottom Line: always always try on and step outside of your comfort zone.

And if you’re a soon to be bride, this would be a great bachelorette dress. I can’t believe wedding season is almost here. Be on the look out for some easy wedding wear posts coming up.  Have a great week y’all.

Spring Time Floral

SHORTS: Express │TOP: Asos │SHOES: Marc Fisher │SUNNIES: River Island (old)- Similar Here │BAG: Chanel │BRACELETS: David Yurman

Happy, Happy Weekend Y’all. The weather in Raleigh has been unusually warm lately, so I had to share my favorite pair of white cut-offs. I live in these bad boys during the summer. They are perfect to throw over your bathing suit or to wear to dinner with a cute top. Express comes out with a different, yet similar version of these shorts every year and I always scoop up a few pairs. Finding shorts I like and are flattering can be such a struggle bus. These hit the jackpot. They aren’t too tight on my thighs and have a nice slimming high rise.

My shoes you’ve probably seen over and over if you follow other fashion blogs. They are Marc Fisher who is a relatively new to the shoe game.  He’s really gained a following which is unsurprising because all of his shoes I’ve tried on are cute and ridiculously comfortable. Go check out my other favorites here and here.

If you have any other questions please feel free to ask!
