Spring Midi Dress

DRESS: Mara Hoffman │BELT: Gucci │SHOES: Steve Madden │SUNNIES: Karen Walker │WATCH: Michele │BRACELETS: David Yurman

Serious, serious spring feels in this Mara Hoffman dress. Mara Hoffman’s ready to wear collection is so bright and fun. I want it all. Go check it out here. Seriously, how fun is this bathing suit? I’m pretty sure I need it. There are also some great wear to work options like these pants. I’m telling you she can really do no wrong in my eyes.

I have to tell you guys how comfortable these shoes are. I think I’ve worn them everyday since I got them two weeks ago. I even decided to be brave and wore them to work. That’s how comfortable they are. More to come on how to style open toed shoes for work.

I waited and waited and waited for this belt to be restocked. When it finally was a few weeks ago, I seriously couldn’t wait for it be shipped. I recommend sizing down if you want to wear it solely as a waist belt. I’m generally a size 2/4 and I ordered the 34 and it can be worn at my hips and waist.

Questions? I’d love to hear from you!

Gingham Wrap Shirt

TOP: Habitual and Here (in more sizes)│JEANS: J crew (old) Similar Here and Here │SHOES: Aldo│ SUNNIES: Karen Walker │WATCH: Michele │BRACELETS: David Yurman

Happy Friday! Is it just me or has this week has seemed like the longest week ever? Super looking forward to this weekend. We are heading to one of my favorite Raleigh restaurants, Angus Barn, for a friend’s birthday tonight. Head over to my insta-stories for some seriously delicious pictures ;). Beyond having stellar food, Angus Barn is beautifully decorated and hosts many wedding receptions every year.

How precious is this top y’all? I was trying to break up my gingham posts, but this guy is selling out fast so I wanted to get it up pronto. It wraps around, which makes it super flattering. It also comes in two other colors, red and white, which are fully in stock.

Flares are my jam y’all. When I am in jeans, which isn’t often, 99% of the time they’re high-waisted flares.  They make your legs look nice and long which has a slimming effect. Darker washes always have a more slimming effect. These guys are more of a medium wash. The jeans pictured are old, but I linked two of my favorite dark wash flares.

Hope ya’ll have the best weekend!!

Pink Gingham

TOP: Express │JEANS: A&E │ SHOES: Schutz│BAG: Banana Republic│SUNNIES: Karen Walker │ WATCH: Michele │BRACELETS: David Yurman

Guys, I’m thinking maybe I should join plaid lovers anonymous? Anyone know if that’s a thing? Here’s to hoping ya’ll aren’t sick of it because it’s my jam. This outfit screams spring to me. Technically, yesterday was the first day of spring. But, I’m not sure Raleigh got the memo. Snow was falling when I left for work this morning. So, I’ll just keep posting my favorite spring pieces until Raleigh figures out that it’s Spring. This is the perfect outfit for those days when the sun is shining and it’s beautiful out, but still in the 50’s and 60’s. This shirt is super comfy and perfect for work and play. I wore it to work last week with blue pants and got tons of compliments.

My jeans are SO comfortable. I love the wash and the distressing. They’re high-waisted and super flattering. Did I mention they’re $60 bucks? Affordable, on trend and flattering? Doesn’t get much better than that. I really don’t wear jeans that often. I’m way more attracted to feminine dresses and skirts. So, if I like a pair of jeans, you can trust that they’re really good.

Questions or Comments? I’d love to hear them!

Matchy Set

TOP: Forever 21 │SKIRT: Forever 21 SHOES: Schutz │ BAG: Modcloth │WATCH: Michele │BRACELETS: David Yurman

Happy Monday, y’all! I feel like I am still recovering from all the fun from St. Patrick’s Day weekend. We started off the holiday at the parade downtown. Raleigh graced us with a little bit of warmer weather and it was much appreciated. I really feel like the parade was actually a dog parade and not a St. Patrick’s day parade. Endless baby animals all dressed in green and top hats. If that’s not your jam, I’m not really sure what is.

I wore this set over the weekend to brunch. For under $40, it doesn’t get much cuter than this. I said it before, but I’ll say it again – matching sets are here to stay. And I’m all in. No more matching your top and bottom, it’s done for you. I also think this skirt would be super work appropriate with a button down. My bag ($49.00) is a dupe of the Cult Gaia bags that you’re seeing everywhere.  I think the wicker/ bamboo bag trend is going to be really hot this spring and summer so I would grab at least one. This option is affordable and super roomy for endless lip gloss and other unnecessary items ;).

Questions? Let’s hear them!

Preppy Plaid

SKIRT: Zara│SHIRT: J Crew│BLAZER: Forever 21│SHOES: Sam Edelman│BAG: Chanel│WATCH: Michele│ BRACELETS: David Yurman│SUNNIES: Asos (sold out) Similar Here

This skirt is just the cutest y’all. I love structure, plaid, and blazers..  You’d think after 10 years in a uniform in Catholic school, I’d be sick of plaid. Well, I’m not. You see lots of plaid around Christmas, but I think there’s room in your life for year round plaid. Gingham or Madras in the summer, Tartan for fall and Hounds tooth for winter. This skirt has a good mix of gingham, tartan and window pane. If you’re reading along and I just spoke a different language – yes, those are all different types of plaid. And yes, there are many, many, many more different types of plaid.

My button down is actually a body suit and I HIGHLY recommend it. Ever have a hard time with your button down staying tucked in? Well this baby literally never comes untucked. It’s fabulous. I wear it to work and on the weekend all the time. My blazer is forever 21 and it’s a super stylish piece for work and play at a cost conscious price point.

Questions? Drop em below!

The Classic LBD

Dress: LuLu’s  │Shoes: Jessica Simpson similar Here and Here│ Watch: Michele │Bracelets: David Yurman

I love date night….. and rooftop bars….. and good wine….  BUT most of all, I love a good little black dress. A dress with the versatility to take you essentially anywhere. From date night to dinner parties, it’s a closet staple. I swear a good LBD has super powers. And for $36, it doesn’t get much better than this one. It also comes in several colors. Dress it up like I did with a neutral heel or dress it down with a denim jacket and some boots. I like having at least a few different long sleeve LBD’s to get me through the transition from winter to spring. My shoes are almost sold out so I’m linking a few similar pairs. I also rounded up some affordable LBDs below.

If you’re in Raleigh and you’re looking for a great date night spot, you have to check out Level 7. It’s in North Hills, on the 7th floor (get it?) of the Marriott AC Hotel. The view is great and the drinks are even better. On Thursday nights they have live music on the rooftop. We head over to have a drink before or after eating in North Hills..

Questions? Comments? I’d love to hear from you…

Death and Taxes

JEANS: Seven For All Mankind │BODYSUIT: Zara

Welcome to my first Raleigh guide post! I’m a huge foodie and I love to be out and about, so I thought I’d do some reviews of my favorite local places. Raleigh is just overflowing with local restaurants making it hard to know where to go. So, let me be your guide! We recently had dinner at one of my favorite Raleigh restaurants, Death and Taxes. Located in downtown Raleigh, Death and Taxes is the newest addition to the Ashley Christensen restaurant group. The focus of this restaurant is wood fired entrees. Think perfectly grilled steak, pork and seafood. This is on the smaller side in terms of size, so plan on making a reservation. You can find their online reservation system here.

Drinks:

The drink selection at Death and Taxes is vast and you could just head there for drinks. The bar is inside the restaurant and faces the kitchen which features an open design. We always try to go a little before our reservation to have a drink and watch the chef do his thing. The wine list goes on and on and honestly, I haven’t had a bad glass there. This visit, I stuck with a trusty favorite, sparkling rose, which I highly recommend. For cocktails, my favorites are the The Stowaway and Les Sucettes.

First Course:

We started the party with the roasted oysters with chili butter and preserved lemon. YUM. Those suckers lasted approximately 2 minutes after this photo was snapped. Other favorites we’ve had are the charcuterie and the beef tartar. You also have to order the bread and butter starter. The bread is freshly baked every day and it’s worth every last calorie.

Entrees:

For our main course, we shared the grilled shrimp and steak. I really feel like if it’s your first time at Death and Taxes you have to try the steak. It’s what they are known for and it does not disappoint. It’s always perfectly cooked to your preference. The beef is NC grass fed angus, so it’s always super tender. The shrimp entree features NC shrimp in a butter garlic sauce that is light and flavorful. Both entrees were fantastic. We’ve also had the pork chop and the fish. I don’t think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. The sides we had this time were fried potato fonduta which resembles a fried mashed potato ball and the twice cooked mushrooms.

Dessert:

Did you really go try a new restaurant if you didn’t order dessert?  We ended the night with an Irish coffee and lemon ice cream sandwich. Pro tip: order your Irish coffee with double Jameson and Baileys. The ice cream sandwich is made with a ginger snap cookie and it’s the perfect sweet and citrus combination. If you’re more of a chocolate fan, the dark chocolate bread pudding is heaven on a plate.

I’m linking the full menu here. Keep in mind, the menu is seasonal and changes so things we had  might not always be on the menu. It is a higher end restaurant and entrees range from $24-35, but it is beyond worth it. I will also say the service at Death and Taxes is above and beyond. All of the wait staff was super accommodating while I traipsed around their restaurant taking 8 million pictures. Highly, highly recommend checking out Death and Taxes.

Questions about Death and Taxes or other Raleigh restaurants? Let me know!

Twirly Olive Dress

DRESS: BKNR  │ SHOES: Jessica Simpson │CLUTCH: Kate Spade (old) Similar Here and Here │ SUNNIES: Karen Walker

Happy Thursday, y’all! I am so, so, so ready for spring. I’m actually ready to throw away all of my coats and bulky sweaters. This dress is the perfect transition dress for spring. The weather here has been hopping back and forth from 70’s to 50’s which makes long sleeves necessary for just a few more weeks (hopefully). North Carolina likes to tease us with a few days of warmer temps and then back to the 50’s. I get so jealous looking at other bloggers who live south of me posting all these fun spring looks. C’mon North Carolina, gimme some spring.

I love flirty, feminine silhouettes and this dress is all of that and more. The material is a super slinky silk blend which gives it tons of personality.  The tie string belt really accentuates the waist giving you that sought after hourglass shape.

Ever since we got back from our Cayman trip, I’ve been dying to start planning our next trip. Where should we go? I have a travel bucket list that’s miles long, but I’d love to hear suggestions from y’all.

Lace Up Dress

DRESS: Revolve │SHOES: Jessica Simpson │CLUTCH: Chanel │SUNNIES: Karen Walker │BRACELETS: David Yurman

I love a little black dress as much as anybody, but y’all, this little white lace up dress might be replacing my LBD this summer. Did I mention it’s also on super sale?  $42 and available in all sizes. When I first saw this dress, I said nope, no way. Those laces are going to show everything and I am guaranteed a wardrobe malfunction. But, I am a firm believer in the try on factor. What’s the try on factor you ask? I try to never judge anything by the way it looks on a hanger or on my computer screen. There have been so many times where I’ve been so unsure about something on the hanger and then I try it on and BAM, its perfect. Bottom Line: always always try on and step outside of your comfort zone.

And if you’re a soon to be bride, this would be a great bachelorette dress. I can’t believe wedding season is almost here. Be on the look out for some easy wedding wear posts coming up.  Have a great week y’all.

xoxo

Wear To Where

PANTS: Zara│SHOES: Jessica Simpson│TOP: Forever 21│BAG: Chanel│WATCH: Michele│BRACELET: David Yurman │SUNNIES: Karen Walker

Happy Wednesday, and Welcome to my first Wear to Where post! I’ve always envisioned this blog as a true reflection of me and my style. And this home girl works full time so, a good portion of my closet is dedicated to work appropriate outfits. I know firsthand the struggle of putting together cute, functional, AND professional outfits. Sometimes it seems like another full time job in itself. Googling and Pinterest are no help in my opinion. I look at the posts on Pinterest and wonder where the heck do these chicks work? I could never wear that to my job… If you’ve ever felt the same way, I’m hoping these posts will help. Some of these posts will be dedicated to work attire, but we will also have some fun with posts dedicated to weekend style, and special occasion style.

Let’s get down to business! These pants are so so so flattering. Who doesn’t want legs that look miles long? I wore this top to work on a day that it rained in Raleigh and got so many laughs/compliments. I love an outfit that is professional without being boring. And it’s cost conscious ringing in at a little over $150 (not Chanel – she’s not very cost conscious).

Questions? I’d love to hear from you. Our Cayman trip will be on the blog soon!

xoxo
